COOKFOX Architecture

Marketing and PR

COOKFOX is a values-driven architectural practice that is known for sustainability; its first commission was the design of One Bryant Park, which, even twelve years after its completion, remains one of the few LEED Platinum skyscrapers in New York City and the United States.

COOKFOX is successful by any measure: by number of employees, by the scale of projects it is working on, by the number of new jobs in the office and by the ever-increasing standards for sustainability and human health to which the firm is committed. Its senior leadership hired The Iva Agency in April of 2017 to help focus its narrative, make sure that its message is being seen and heard by the people to whom that message is meaningful, to affirm that COOKFOX’s designs align with its mission and values, and to increase its visibility.

The office took new space on West 57th Street that received WELL Gold Certification from the IWBI – International Well Building Institute – in the spring of 2017, making it the only space to earn that rating in New York City through mid-2018. The first significant news of the certification was in the Wall St. Journal in June, in a piece by Josh Barbanel. Professional photography by Eric Laignel happened in August 2017, and we shared it with editors at Interior Design magazine, who included the COOKFOX office in their October round-up of important international offices. The office has since also been featured in The New York Times, 6 SqFt, Real Estate Weekly, and other publications.

An important pro-bono project that COOKFOX had completed earlier in 2017 and had photographed in October, Neeson Cripps Academy in Phenom Pen, was selected for inclusion in the January 2018 Schools issue of Architectural Record. The feature explains that 400 of the poorest children in Phnom Penh are studying Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics at a level that is making them competitive university students when they graduate.

150 Charles Street was featured by Metropolis magazine in its April 2018 housing issue. In a famously historic neighborhood, the COOKFOX designers preserved the existing warehouse storefront, lessening demolition waste and maintaining the street façade. At the same time they crafted a 15-story tower that feels simultaneously intimate and expansive because of its massing; it is a U-shaped building around a lushly planted courtyard featuring a series of stepped-back, west-facing terraces with generous plantings on every level. This contextual building complements the scale of the neighborhood fabric rather than imposing on it. #5 The project also won an AIA National Housing Award and will be showcased at the AIA National Conference in New York City this June 2018.

On March 1, 2018, COOKFOX hosted a ThinkTank with Metropolis magazine, at which Susan Szenasy questioned a panel of three disparate professionals who all see themselves as responsible for human health: Rick Cook, Architect; Adam Lutz, Real Estate Manager at Google, New York; and Dr. Maida Galvez, a pediatrician at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, an officer of the Children’s Environmental Health Network.

The Iva Agency was instrumental in making all of these things happen.
